Meet Dan

If you know Dan, you know him as HD, short for Hot Dog. As a kid, he’d spend a lot of time at the store while his parents were working long hours building the business. Ron’s Rolling Lunch Wagon would come by the store every day at lunchtime. And every day Dan would ask for a hot dog without a bun. It was Ron who nicknamed him “Hot Dog”, and the name stuck, and was shortened to “HD”.

HD will tell you that his main role at the store is “chief donut getter” for the staff, but you need only spend a short time onsite to know that he’s driving force behind the day-to-day operations at Paul’s and Sandy’s. He’s constantly on the move but never too busy to stop and check in with a customer needing assistance. His dedication to customer service is matched by a commitment to creating a supportive work environment for his staff.

HD has a son Hunter and a daughter Bella. Both Hunter and Bella are in college but can be found working at the store during breaks.

When HD is not on the clock he enjoys paddleboarding on Lake Pocotopaug, and training for and running 5K road races.
